Work Experience
The majority of our customers have limited education, limited English
skills, and little or no work experience outside of agriculture. Similarly, while a good number of farmworkers acquire technical skills that translate into jobs in manufacturing, warehousing, and related fields, the level of skill development is oftentimes not adequate to persuade employers to provide
On-The-Job training.
Work Experience (WEX’s) are thus a valuable tool to provide customers with the skills and exposure needed to obtain new employment. Appropriateness of a WEX is determined by a number of factors:
| • |
Potential openings in these arenas are analyzed in light of the customer’s interests |
| • |
Desires and needs as detailed in his/her IEP and the skills that can be acquired at a site. |

On the Job Training
On the Job Training (OJT) is a contract negotiated with an employer where training costs are shared between the employer and service provider, with
performance goals, the wage to be paid to the trainee, and the reimbursement rate amount to be paid to the employer.
Training agreements are entered into with the training provider detailing the specific training to be offered, the skills to be attained, duration, and cost. Training services may include occupation skills training, On-The-Job training
(OJT), skill upgrading, entrepreneurial training, customized training, and adult education and literacy activities.
Job Referral and Placement—WorkSource Partner
As noted earlier—Job Readiness, we actively work with WorkSource partners in providing services to farmworkers. As co-located partners in our local WorkSource systems, we provide cross training to one another in our respective programs, as well as cross referrals and co-enrollments to expand the range of customer resources that serves as a job placement tool for the customers that we serve.
