Community Services
The
Emergency Food Assistance Program
(TEFAP)-[WA]
, (TEFAP)-[USDA]:
This program is aimed at increasing the nutrition levels of participating
families. OIC of Washington’s food bank is the central distribution agency
for Yakima County and distributes food commodities to nine other food
banks through out the area. OIC of Washington's Food Bank is open Tuesday
through Thursday from 10am to 2pm. Households can receive food twice a
month under this funding source. Northwest Harvest and Second Harvest are
also large contributors to the OIC Food Bank and food received from these
two sources can be received at any time the Food Bank is open, based on
availability of products.
SE
In School Energy Education Program: Upper Yakima County, 6th
grade youth classes are provided the opportunity to receive education on
electricity generation, importance of conservation, meter reading,
electricity usage and efficiency tips. Items handed out are used and
installed with parent assistance include showerheads, aerators and
temperature cards to test water heaters and refrigerator/freezers.
Students track their past and present monthly kWh (kilowatt
hours) usage through their
monthly bills.
LIH
Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP): This program helps insure that families will have heat during winter heating months. They may also
assist with repairs to non-working heat sources.
Low Income Bill Assistance (LIBA/PPL Bill Assistance)
Assist Electrically Heated homes with a discount on kilowatt usage over
the first 600 kilowatts used. Program runs from November through April
each year. Sign-up is year round.
Energy Assistance & Low Income Weatherization
(PacifiCorp):
Our partnership with PacifiCorp administers programs designed to assist families to better budget monies and conserve energy through education. The Rate Reduction Program assists families by registering them with PacifiCorp for a reduced energy cost.
WEAF
Washington Energy Assistance Fund
(WEAF)
Funds provided by Cascade Natural Gas to assist households with natural gas expenses. This program
is available to
help CNG customers with their energy costs, up to $500 maximum.

WHP
Winter Help Program
Assists with deposits, disconnects, and minor repairs up to $250.00 for
Gas Heated Homes. (When funds are available)
Housing
Our Housing department is funded by several government programs to reduce
the burden of rising home and energy costs on households. We also assist
in home ownership, energy efficiency and repairs.
Weatherization
OIC of Washington’s Weatherization programs reduces energy costs for
low-income households while conserving energy for our community.
Minor Home Repair
This program provides requirements to clients through cost effective
solutions for conducting repairs and/or residential retrofits.
Employment and Training
Washington Farm worker Investment Program
(NFJP): Grant awarded under
U.S. Department of Labor Title 1, Section 167 of the Workforce Investment
Act (WIA), this program provides employment-related services to eligible workers and their families in Washington State.

Community Agriculture Vocational
Institute (CAVI):
A program designed to provide improved employment opportunities while
providing a much needed service to Washington State's food industry.
Combining these two needs to fill the requirements of each other had a
great deal of success in its first year and is expected increase in the
years to follow.
New
Beginnings: Disabled Migrant Seasonal
Farmworkers Job assistance and employment training. This program
includes the same support services found in the NFJP program.
Young Adult Program
(WIA-1B): Young Adult services in Upper Yakima and Kittitas Counties. A customer-driven program, the goal is to complete education, prepare for post-secondary, and attain occupational skills to gain employment.
AmeriCorps: Partnered with AmeriCorps, members serve schools to provide tutoring, school partnerships, encourage parent involvement, and recruit volunteers to support
local schools. Additionally, our associates employ the
Circle of Success
program as well as provide construction teams for building homes in our local area.
