Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in education and current teaching certificate required.
  2. Proven experience working with migrant and seasonal farmworkers in a classroom setting.
  3. Bilingual in English and Spanish (speaking/reading/writing).

Position Overview:

 

The instructor will be responsible for preparing Migrant and Seasonal participants for successful completion of the GED test, so that 85% participants successfully received their GEDs during the 22-week session.  The instructor will teach three evening classes a week during the 22-week session.  The classes will each be three-hours long.  There are two sessions per year.  The instructor will also have an additional six hours per week to assist is recruiting and outreach, class preparation time and planning. The instructor will also process academic skills development documentation, Individual Educational Plans (IEPs) and future career and education plans.

 

BASIC RESPONSIBILITES:

  1. Administer instructional materials to HEP participants, utilizing instruction in a culturally relevant manner and according to the OIC of Washington HEP Instructional Model.   Monitor participants’ academic skills and development and progress and adjust instruction to work on participants areas of weakness.
  2. Develop class schedules per student needs
  3. Conduct academic assessments and develop IEPs for each participant.
  4. Together with the Review Office staff, set up appointments for GED testing for participants who have demonstrated proficiency.
  5. Develop a portfolio for each student, which include intakes, evaluations, attendance, awards, and Official GED test scores and certificates.
  6. Conduct new student orientations.
  7. Provide instruction in basic student development skills and vocational and career development.
  8. Comply with all grant requirements, goals and objectives.  This includes submitting on a timely basis all program reports, weekly participant’s attendance sheets; official practice test scores; GED transcripts and certificates.  
  9. Monitor goals and objectives for respective satellite program.
  10. Supervise instructional aides to ensure individualized tutoring and applications and documentation are complete and correct.
  11. Participate in In-service training and meeting.
  12. Other duties as assigned.
