Job Readiness

Many resources are available at OIC and are provided to serve our customers in order to prepare them for work. In addition, as a WorkSource Partner we have access to multiple community resources. Staff work hand-in-hand with other partners to connect customers with WorkSource resources. A customer can walk in and get assistance on:
How to fill out a job application
Learn how to write resumes
Learn interview techniques
Conduct job search
Obtain labor market information
Participate in career development workshops
Unemployment campuses
Access jobs through Internet

Skills and Abilities Assessment

For those interested in job placement, staff gather relevant information through both formal and informal methods:

Work and educational history, including country of origin, if applicable
Work skills, occupational aptitudes, interests, and employment goals
Level of oral/writing skills in English and Spanish, and computer skills
Other support and service needs such as child care, tools, financial aid

Our staff use a wide range of assessment instruments to track skills acquisition in four competency areas : Job Readiness Skills, Work Ethic Skills, Occupational Skills, and Basic Skills. It is important to stress that our assessment will be an ongoing process. Assessments will be used in the development and modifications of each customer’s Individual Employment Plan (IEP).
